INDIGENOUS DAY
We invite you to join with us in honouring this land’s indigenous peoples
TODAY IS INDIGENOUS PEOPLES’DAY!
Given the land we’re on and the history of it’s people, it would be more appropriate to refer to every day as, ‘Indigenous Day’. We’re honoured to join in celebration of this land’s heritage and the contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. We also mourn alongside those same peoples for their many losses and for our past and present complicity in their suffering.
We and this neighbourhood are situated on the Haldimand Tract, land that was granted to the Haudenosaunee of the Six Nations of the Grand River. This is within the territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabe, and Haudenosaunee peoples.
We have no right to be here, and yet here we are. Today, we acknowledge that tension and the need for reconciliation for this injustice and many others.
